You may have thought that Oscar night was that day of the year when a bunch of actors, actresses, directors, writers, producers, musicians and the occasional comedian all put on there best outfit, gathered in a nice big theater, made some terrible speeches and dished out some shiny awards. If that's what you thought, then you only know half the story.
Warren is a self confessed lover of films, some may go as far as to call him a film geek. He is one of those people who likes to read all the credits at the end of a film. He also likes to know what those boys and girls over at the Academy think about the most recent batch of movies, like which films they believe are award worthy. So come Oscar night, Warren would book off then next day work (because of the time difference problem) and sit down in front of the TV with his note pad, maybe even his stack of Empires and watch the results come in live over the course of the night.
Then Warren got some friends. These friends also liked films. More importantly they enjoyed discussing (arguing) the relative merits of these films. So when the 78th Annual Academy Awards approached, Warren invited his new friends to join him so they could watch and discuss the results live. To make things a little more interesting, it was agreed that every one should predict what the results would be and the person who got the most correct predictions would get the final say in any movie related argument, until the next Oscar night. Alcohol was also added to help get though the speeches and just make the evening a little smoother.
P.S. Some of the bits about Warren's early life, like implying he had no friends until recently, may not be entirely accurate.
After some technical difficulties with our first and second locations, Suren hosted our first Oscar Night. As always Suren was an excellent host and the evening was deemed a success. In a shock result Warren predicted the most correct winners, and now enjoys a year of winning all film related arguments, this did cause me to think that he may have engineered the entire event to boost his own ego. Hmmm....
After the success of the first Oscar Night, we decided to have another evening of film related banter. As an extra twist, Peter declared that no penguin based film shall win an Oscar, he was so sure of this he would half his score if one did. Mumble pulled out all the stops and gained another Oscar for the penguin community causing Peters score to half and me a small programming problem. Warren again proved his film prowess and won by one clear point, he now enjoys a second year of winning all film related arguments.
The nominations are out and people are making their predictions. Will Warren win for a 3rd year in a row? Will the penguins win an Oscar again this year, or will a rat beat them to it?
